Abstract

The axis of the rectangular coil is parallel to the surface of the conductor under test, and a uniform eddy current field can be generated on the surface of the conductor. This structure is widely used in eddy current testing. In this paper, a finite element simulation model of a uniform eddy current rectangular coil was built using finite element method (FEM) to obtain the sensitivity of a uniform eddy current rectangular coil with different heights, lengths, widths, and thicknesses. The relationship between the geometric dimensions and sensitivity was obtained by function fitting. Through simulation analysis, it was found that increasing coil height and length can increase coil sensitivity. Keeping the coil turns per unit area constant, increasing the thickness of the coil increases the coil’s sensitivity. Increasing the width of the coil, the sensitivity of the sensor increases first and then decreases, so there is a maximum range. The methods and conclusions presented in this paper provide a reference for the optimal design of uniform eddy current rectangular coils.
