Abstract

This paper deals with analysis and modelling of equalizing blocks in calibration baths for temperature calibration by comparison. The main purpose of the paper is to define, objectively, the parameters of the equalizing block that is usually designed on the basis of experimental data. Although heat transfer problems have been thoroughly analysed, a problem of determining optimal dimensions and shapes of equalizing blocks has not been completely discussed. An attempt was made to generalise a model of the equalizing block in order to optimise the configuration of various blocks in different calibration systems. For optimisation of the equalizing block, electrical modelling of calibration baths was analysed by using a simulation program. Theoretical results were verified by measurements in two highly stable liquid baths in the temperature range from −80°C to +290°C.
