Abstract

This paper investigates the voltage unbalance effect of series rectifier diodes in high-voltage high-frequency generator applications. Firstly, the equivalent circuit network of series diodes is analyzed. The equation for the diode junction capacitance variation with voltage is given. The influencing factors of diode voltage unbalance in high-voltage environment are determined. Secondly, the effects of the diode's own parameters and external circuits on the potential distribution are analyzed. The phenomenon of unbalance voltage of series diodes in rectification is explained. Suggestions for diode selection are given. Finally, a mitigation scheme for the unbalanced voltage is provided. Simulation and experimental results show that the parasitic capacitor is the main factor causing the unbalanced diode voltage in the high-voltage environment. By adding voltage balancing capacitors, the effect of voltage unbalance can be reduced by more than 70%.
