Abstract

Measurements have been made at 25°C of the excess molar enthalpies of the 1-propanol + water system and of the densities of the 2-propanol + water system, across their entire respective composition ranges. These data have been combined with others taken from the literature to provide a comparison between the excess molar properties of the two systems. Some fairly substantial differences are observed which indicate that, of the two isomers, 1-propanol is the more capable of forming structured aggregates.
