Abstract

Modern radio communication systems have to provide higher and higher data rates. As conventional methods like using more bandwidth or higher order modulation types are limited. Multiple antenna systems or Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) gives a significant enhancement to data rate and channel capacity. The interest in MIMO antenna systems has exploded over the last years because of their potential of achieving remarkably high spectral efficiency. In modern communication transceiver system, primary aims are to direct high power RF signal from transmitter to antenna while preventing leakage of that large signal into more sensitive front-end of receiver. So, a Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT) Transmitter/Receiver (T/R) Switch plays an important role. In this paper, analysis and design of microstrip array antenna using SPDT-T/R switch has been introduced and investigated. All the entire proposed antenna system has been evaluated using a commercial software. The proposed design has been fabricated and the radiation characteristics have been illustrated. The measured S-parameters of the proposed structure can be analyzed with network analyzer to demonstrate the proposed antenna system performance to meet the requirements for MIMO antenna system applications.
