Abstract

In this paper, a K-shaped dual side anti-parallel metamaterial structure of conducting strips is designed on a Rogers RO4232(tm) substrate and analyzed in 20 – 25 GHz band. The transmission characteristics of the metamaterial structure are simulated by using finite element method based electromagnetic solver - Ansoft HFSS. Constitutive parameters such as effective permittivity (ε) and effective permeability (μ) of the medium containing the proposed structure are extracted by using the S parameters obtained from simulation. Real part of effective permeability is negative over a 22 – 22.7 GHz band, which shows that it can be used as a magnetic resonator in a metamaterial structure aiming to achieve negative refractive index.
