Abstract

AbstractPhotovoltaic PV solar systems continue to be one of the most promising and widely used renewable energy source. PV systems are increasing used as distributed generation technology connected to low voltage (LV) network. This paper investigates the influence of PV connection on voltage profile in LV network. This analysis includes scenarios with voltage control based using variable power factor. The analysis is performed on model of realistic LV network, fed from 10 (20)/0.4 kV distribution transformer currently operated in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This paper also discusses the issues of voltage stability and voltage regulation in distribution network. The main objective of this work is to investigate the possibility of practical voltage control in distribution network. Results indicate importance of appropriate operation strategy for PV systems connected on the LV network. The results confirmed that DG can have both positive and negative effect on the grids depending on control strategy. Methodology is based on load flow analysis which is performed using DIgSILENT Power Factory software. In conclusion, this paper contributed to practical power system operation and management as it provides additional case analysis which confirm the importance of appropriate power system planning and operation strategies.KeywordsDistributed generationPower factorDIgSILENT PowerFactoryPower factor control
