Abstract

The wireless smart camera networks is defined in this paper. Its system architecture, characteristics and application direction are introduced. And then, the key factors are analyzed in designing and developing of wireless smart camera network platforms. According to the mote architecture, the platforms are divided into two categories: detached platforms and combinative platforms, and are analyzed respectively, in terms of platform architecture, hardware selection, vision system, wireless communication, software architecture and power consumption. The characteristics of these platforms are compared, including key hardware element, power efficiency, computational power, complexity, memory capacity and cost. The paper concludes with future trends of platform study.
