Abstract

The factors that affect the signal in an underwater acoustic communication is the multipath propagation and the background noise. With the existence of interference and background noise, different channel coding techniques (FEC) and modulation have to be analyzed carefully for better communication purpose. The forward error correction coding techniques are used to reduce the residual errors. In this paper, the performance of BER has been analyzed, firstly by using three channel coding techniques i.e. Convolution codes (CC), Reed Solomon code (RS) and Reed Solomon Block Turbo code (RS-BTC) by using two channels i.e. AWGN and acoustic channel but these codes are not giving better improvement in the performance of BER at the output of the channel decoding. So LDPC codes are introduced to upgrade the channel decoding effectiveness. In this paper the entire channel coding techniques is carried out using QPSK modulation.
