Abstract
Radiation from a superstrate loaded cylindrical–rectangular microstrip patch antenna with an air gap between the ground and the substrate is analysed using the full-wave approach and the electric surface current model. Results are presented in the form of normalised radiation patterns and directivity patterns for various thicknesses of the air gap, to show the effects of the air gap on the radiation from the antenna. Both axial and azimuthal current elements are considered.
