Abstract

Infrastructure services play important roles in any agricultural development. This study is to evaluate the importance of infrastructure amenities for rural agriculture development in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Some of the infrastructure amenities that determine the sustainability of rural agriculture development comprise road, electricity, market, communication, and credit institutions. Data on infrastructure facilities were collected from different establishments for the analysis. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and geographic information system (GIS) were used to evaluate the infrastructure facility for sustainable agriculture development of the area. The result indicates that 496,198.73 ha of land has sufficient sustainable infrastructure for rural agricultural development, 105,414.83 ha has moderate infrastructure, and 63,733.74 ha was regarded as not adequately covered by sustainable rural infrastructure for agriculture development. It was further revealed by the study that the infrastructure amenities of the study area have great potential for agricultural production. It was recommended that additional infrastructural amenities such as good technology for seed production, rural road construction, and rural electrification project could be established to facilitate sustainable agriculture development in the study area.
