Abstract
The dominant structure of the Philipsburg thrust slice is a regional north-northeast-trending syncline associated with numerous minor folds. The thrust slice is cut northward by east-west thrusts and eastward by north-northeast thrusts. Westward, it is limited by the Logan's Line. Six structural domains have been identified on the basis of structural position and style of deformation. Crosscutting relationships between observed structural elements can be used to establish the tectonic history of rock units of the Philipsburg Group, as follows: 1) regional folding during overthrusting by the Stanbridge nappe, 2) local collapse of structures, 3) reactivation of pre-existing faults during the tectonic slicing and thrusting over the St. Lawrence platform, and 4) late north-south and east-west transcurrent faulting.
