Abstract

The analogy between momentum, heat and mass transfer, which applies to the turbulent pipe flow of Newtonian fluids, is often used for viscoelastic fluids. A comparison of the most extensive experimental results for viscoelastic fluids in turbulent pipe flow leads to the conclusion that the use of the analogy in such cases is incorrect. For viscoelastic fluids there is no simple direct analogy between the three transport phenomena.
