Abstract

The authors describe an analog ultrasonic and mechanical test facility for determining the physical and mechanical properties of unconsolidated geologic materials and for correlating these properties with their seismic wave propagation characteristics for purposes of implementing these data into actual seismic surveys in areas where significant mineral and ore deposits are embedded in terrain consisting primarily of such unconsolidated materials. Data are given for actual wave propagation compared with experimentally and analytically determined wave propagation in the earth crust.
