Abstract

The following article includes the description of an evaluation of new speech coding strategy based on psycho-acoustic masking model. New strategy stimulate smaller number of channels in comparison of active channel's number. The strategy is based on standard ACE strategy. The difference is the psycho-acoustic masking model which recognize the most important components from the audio signal. The study was designed as a prospective multi-centre clinical study in 7 European language areas. 247 patients from 37 Cochlear Implant Centers took part into the research. The article includes only results of Warsaw group – it means 10 patients, experienced users of Nucleus implants and Freedom speech processors. The speech perception was tested using monosyllabic test in quiet at 65dBSPL and speech test in noise. The results shows that new strategy has no influence on speech perception but significant increase battery lifetime in comparison with standard strategies.
