Abstract

The results of investigations describing the influence of various surfactants (SPC) and concentrators as well as diluent and organic solvent on the stability of aqueous dispersion of PVC plastisol were presented. Non-ionic surfactants (ethoxylated fatty alcohol, vegetable oil glyceride, alkylphenol, amide) or anionic alkylbenzenesulfonate acid were used. Waterborne polyurethane oligomer was used as a concentrator to stabilize the dispersion. xylene, butyl acetate or butanol was used as diluent and cyclohexanone as a solvent. On the basis of molar refraction and Hildebrand parameter the interactions between the components of aqueous dispersion of PVC plastisol were determined (Table 3). Sedimentation and viscometric tests showed advantageous effects of the concentrator, diluent and solvent on an increase in dispersion yield and on decrease in particles' dimensions of PVC plastisol. An increase in Huggins constant was observed for the systems of high stability and high polymer content in disperse phase. It indicates the lyophilization of the surface of plastisol particles and this way an increase in SPC adsorption to this surface.
