Abstract

This thesis is entitled, "Analysis of the Symbolic Meaning and Value of Marriage Customs in the Uud Danum Dayak Ethnic Village of Buntut Pimpin, Ambalau District, Sintang Regency". The general problem in this study, "what is the meaning and symbolic value of marriage customs in the Dayak Uud Danum ethnic group, Buntut Village, the Head of the Ambalau District, Sintang Regency?". The general objective of this research is to "know and describe the meaning and symbolic value of marriage customs in the Uud Danum Dayak ethnic group, Buntut Pimpin Village, Ambalau District, Sintang Regency". The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques used are observation techniques, interview guides and documentation. Informants in this study were the Elders and Traditional Management of Buntut Pimpin Village. The results of this study indicate that there are three stages of traditional ceremonies/rituals in the marriage customs of the Uud Danum Dayak ethnicity, namely the customary application / engagement (Nyepohtin and Kisok), the customary marriage (Hosahki'), and the closing custom (Posarak Adat). In every series of implementation of the traditional wedding ceremony activities, symbols are used in the form of traditional activities/rituals and symbols in the form of objects. Each symbol has a meaning and value that is believed by the Uud Danum Dayak community.
