Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine (1) the mistakes in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills type story problems on fractions by fourth-grade students of SD Negeri Wirokerten (2) factors that caused students to make mistakes in completing HOTS questions. This research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is fourth-grade students of SD Negeri Wirokerten. Data collection techniques used are tests, interviews, and documentation. Research instruments using HOTS questions, interview guidelines, and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this research used data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that (1) errors in understanding the problem were 39,7%, error in transforming questions were 35,3%, errors in data processing were 23,5%, and errors in writing the final answer were 69,2% (2) factors that caused student’s errors in solving HOTS type questions about fractional material that is at the level of accuracy and foresight of students in understanding and determining the steps to solve the given problem.
