Abstract

One of the means to prepare professional teacher candidates is through the implementation of the Micro Teaching course. This research was conducted at the Microteaching Laboratory of FPMIPA IKIP PGRI by involving Biology students who program Micro Teaching courses in the even semester of the 2019/2020 Academic year. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach that aims to determine cognitive abilities, the suitability of lesson plans, and the quality of basic teaching skills of Biology Education Study Program students in the Micro Teaching course. The data was collected using test techniques with the instruments used cognitive tests, observation techniques. The instrument used was a rubric sheet for assessing teaching skills of prospective teachers and an assessment rubric for the Learning Implementation Plan (RPP). As well as a questionnaire using the questionnaire instrument. The data analyzed were knowledge about the essence and principles of preparing lesson plans, rubric for the assessment of lesson plans (RPP), and teaching skills of prospective teachers using qualitative descriptive statistics. The results of the research and data analysis showed that the students 'knowledge of the essence and principles of preparing lesson plans was low, while the students' ability to compile lesson plans and basic teaching skills were good in several aspects, but there were still aspects that needed more training.
