Abstract

Gunung Kidul is one of the areas in the Special Region of Yogyakarta which has a wealth of potential natural tourism types, namely the beach cluster. This potential cannot yet be utilized optimally because destination development tends to be uniform and does not increase the length of tourist visits. The aim of this research is to assess the physical suitability and demographic data of Watulawang Beach, Gunungkidul to assess whether the beach is suitable for development as a camping destination. The method used is descriptive qualitative with primary data in the form of field observations that measure 10 variables of the physical suitability of the beach as a camping destination and interviews to determine tourist demographic data. The results of the research show that Watulawang Beach, Gunungkidul is not suitable as a camping destination because it is not suitable to meet 10 physical measurement variables and the type of tourists who visit tend to be mass tourists.
