Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is transmitted through the air from saliva, sneezing and coughing. In this case the family plays a role in providing care in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in accordance with the duties of family health. Determine the factors associated with family behavior in preventing the transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis based on the tasks in health at health center of Pegirian Surabaya . The aim of this research is used correlation design with the method of cross sectional. The population was families who live with pulmonary tuberculosis patient. Total sample was 45 respondent. Taken using consecutive sampling. Dependent variable was the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis. Independent variables were the five duties of family health (knowing health problems, making decisions for the family, caring for family members who experience health problems, creating a healthy home environment, and utilize health care facilities around). Data collected using by questionaire. then analyzed with Spearman's Rho correlation test. Results showed that there was a connection with the prevention of health problems identified pulmonary tuberculosis (ρ=0.009), there was a connection to make decisions appropriate health measures for family members who suffer from pulmonary tuberculosis to the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis (ρ=0.006), there was a connection of caring for family members prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis with pulmonary tuberculosis (ρ=0.015), there was a connection of health to create an environment that supports the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis (ρ=0.002), and there was a connection utilizing existing health facilities in the community to the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis (ρ=0.010). Recommended for health workers at health center Pegirian to provide enough information for people who are at high risk of pulmonary tuberculosis. Further research is needed to explain the behavior of families towards the prevention of transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis using a larger sample.
