Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the hosts and infestation rate of tomato leafminer [ Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)] in 2012-2013 in Canakkale province. Research was conducted by examining cultivated plants at 10 day intervals and weeds at 10-15 days intervals from uncultivated fields to determine possible hosts of the pest. The pest was determined in all surveyed tomato fields and an infestation rate of 88% was found with different life stages of T. absoluta . Other than tomato, presence of T. absoluta on Capsicum annuum L. (2,7%) and Solanum melongena L. (5,8%) was found but it wasn’t found on Nicotiana tabacum , Phaseolus vulgaris and Solanum muricatum . The pest was also found on weeds such as Solanum nigrum L., Convolvulus arvensis L., Sinapis arvensis L. and Sonchus oleraceus L.. S. arvensis and S. oleraceus are first records as hosts
