Abstract

Noma, also known as necrotising ulcerative stomatitis, gangrenous stomatitis or cancrum oris is an orofacial gangrene. It is usually seen in children of developing countries, between the age group of 2 and 7 years, who are malnourished and debilitated by disease. We present a case of a 7-year-old child posted for Abbe flap reconstruction followed by division. We have discussed the airway challenges in this case and suggest a tailored approach as per the patient’s requirement, the anaesthesiologist’s skills and the equipment available.
