Abstract

Abstract All doctors should be familiar with the anaesthetic and resuscitation equipment in their hospital. Always check equipment before it is used. Anaesthetic problems are often caused by equipment failures. Never bypass safety procedures, no matter how urgent the situation. Anaesthetic equipment and techniques are continuously changing to provide safer and more efficient anaesthesia. These changes often occur more quickly in the operating theatres than in A & E departments. It is essential, when starting a new job, that each doctor becomes familiar with the resuscitation and anaesthetic equipment used in the hospital
