Abstract

Certain factors dominate the technique of performing anaesthesia in obstetrics: There are two human beings in one, but anaesthesia should only effect one; the presence of abdominal distention; and the presence or absence of foetal distress. Therefore in performing anaesthesia in obstetrics it is necessary to use anaesthetic drugs with little or no effect on the foetus.
