Abstract

This paper describes a unique, new, liquid, anaerobic, self-hardening, one-part, polyester resin. The design problems associated with soft compression gaskets, the additional cost of field replacement, and the need to stock many varying gasket shapes can now be avoided. The solution is provided by a single, anaerobic, gasket material which eliminates gasket stress relaxation, creep, and subsequent bolt torque tension loss by allowing metal-to-metal makeup. This material has been introduced to industry as “Plastic Gasket” by the authors' firm.
