Abstract

AbstractSecondary treatment of pulp and paper mill wastewaters for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal worldwide has traditionally been accomplished, and particularly in North America, by aerobic treatment processes, including aerated stabilization basin and activated sludge. In recent years, however, interest in applying anaerobic processes to treat pulp and paper mill effluents has increased, with at least 25 full‐scale installations currently operating or under construction.
