Abstract

Intrathoracic gas formation due to anaerobic pleuropulmonary infection is rare. We experienced a case of empyema with intrathoracic gas formation by an anaerobic bacterium in a young woman with anorexia nervosa (AN). We should therefore be alert to the possibility of serious infection in patients with AN, even when they have few complaints or normal white blood cell counts.
