Abstract

The X‐ray spectra of β Per (Algol), obtained by the Einstein Solid State Spectrometer (SSS), the Broad‐Band X‐ray Telescope (BBXRT), and the ROSAT PSPC, at a variety of epochs and orbital phases, are discussed, as well as new PSPC spectra of several other Algol systems. The spectra of β Per show evidence for anomalous, presumably circumstellar absorption at certain orbital phases, while the PSPC spectra of all 4 systems exhibit a soft thermal component with T∼0.1−0.2 keV.
