Abstract
A doubly bent LiF monochromator for CuKα radiation is described. Two mutually perpendicular sets of radially convergent Soller slits are used to produce a sharply defined intense beam 15 mm × 5 mm in cross section, suitable for thermal diffuse scattering measurements. Detailed design and construction are discussed and it is suggested that the Soller slit technique can be used to improve existing monochromators.
