Abstract

The temperature dependence of X-ray scattering and Raman scattering in SrCl 2 to temperatures above the region of the diffuse transition is reported. The lattice parameter increases quite smoothly with increasing temperature; however the intensity of certain X-ray reflections changes drastically at temperatures above the transition region. The frequency of the Raman active vibrational mode decreases with increasing temperature. At high temperatures a background appears in the Raman spectrum which is attributed to Cl sublattice disorder.
