Abstract

Abstract In January 1983, we joined a New Zealand Wildlife Service expedition to survey the herpetofauna of the northern end of Great Barrier Island (Newman and Towns, 1985). On the 10th January, while searching for {itLeiopelma hochstetteri} in the headwaters of the unnamed stream immediately west of Motairehe Stream, we saw two frogs which we were unable to catch. Because several aspects of their behaviour differed from that recorded for {itL. hochstetteri}, we believe that this unusual sighting should be documented.
