Abstract

Question: A 28-year-old woman with a body mass index of 48.7 kg/m2 underwent laparoscopic adjustable gastric banded plication (LAGBP) for the management of morbid obesity. Nausea and vomiting were noted postoperatively and she was treated with gastrokinetic or antiemetic agents. However, her symptoms deteriorated and she experienced intractable vomiting, which made her unable to swallow any liquids on the third postoperative day. In addition, epigastric pain also occurred. Physical examination was unremarkable except for mild tenderness to palpation in the epigastric area.
