Abstract

Abstract Background: Retention of fetal bones is a rare complication following a termination of pregnancy. Case: This case report describes a miscarriage that was diagnosed along with the discovery of fetal bones from a surgical termination of a previous advanced pregnancy. The patient chose conservative management of her miscarriage. A month later, she had a hysteroscopy to remove the bones. Results: The patient made a full recovery and decided to wait for a period of time before trying to conceive. Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of identifying the retention of fetal bones, as this not only has an impact on future fertility, but also has an impact on maintaining the viability of early pregnancy. These patients should be offered the option of surgical removal of the fetal bones to help reduce the risk of miscarriage in subsequent pregnancies. (J GYNECOL SURG 30:227)
