Abstract

Cerebral abscess in an uncommon complication of diabetes. We report a case of a temporal abscess whose symptoms were masked by a concurrent periodontal infection. An obese man (BMI 41.6 m2/kg) in his forties made recurrent presentations to dentists and lastly, hospital with a four-day history of headache. Sudden death occurred later at home soon after discharge. His glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) was 10.4% (90 mmol/mol). Dental examination showed a carious right upper second molar with possible acute on chronic infection.
