Abstract

A new super ultra-wideband 4×4 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation is proposed and its characteristics are studied. The application of elliptical shaped monopoles in the design helps to achieve the operational bandwidth from 2.2 GHz to 20 GHz. Furthermore, to enhance the isolation two monopoles (M2, M4) are on one side of the substrate and other two monopoles (M1, M3) areplaced on the other side of the substrate. In addition to that for further improvement in the isolation a rectangular slot is introduced in the substrate compared to conventional slot in the ground plane or in the radiator plane, which lies between the monopole M1 and M2. The dimension of MIMO antenna is 70 × 80 mm2. The proposed MIMO antenna demonstrates a good isolation more than 20 dB in most of the operating band. The antenna performance in terms of S-parameter, surface current distribution, ECC, radiation pattern, and gain is also discussed.
