Abstract

A wideband circularly polarized cavity-backed patch antenna excited by substrate integrated coaxial line (SICL) is proposed in this letter. The antenna is composed of two corner truncated rectangular patches, two L-shaped patches, a backed cavity, and an I-shaped feed network. The four patches and the feed network generate a circularly polarized radiation pattern in a sequential-rotation method. The backed cavity is used to prevent surface wave and increase the directivity. The achieved bandwidth is 15.5% (41.5 ~ 48.5 GHz). The measured impedance bandwidth is 14.65% (41.7 ~ 48.3 GHz). The peak gain is 8.9 dBi, and the 3-dB gain bandwidth is 17.5% (41.5 ~ 49.5 GHz). The measurements are in agreement with the simulations.
