Abstract
Since 2000, more than 200 billion pieces of mail have been transported and delivered by the United States Postal Service (USPS) on an annual basis. It is critical for the Postal Service to manage its network in the most cost-efficient way and to maintain a high standard of service. This article aims at providing an overview of the USPS's processing, distribution and transportation networks, the major efforts it has made to optimise its network in recent years and its goals for the near future.
