Abstract

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has an ongoing investigation to evaluate cooperative control algorithms for multiple heterogeneous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This research is being conducted through the Cooperative Operations in UrbaN TERrain (COUNTER) research and flight demonstration program. COUNTER is a theoretical and experimental program to develop the technology needed to integrate multiple small and micro UAVs with a single human operator in a layered sensing architecture for persistent intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance of obscured targets in an urban environment as well as in Integrated Base Defense (IBD) scenarios.
