Abstract

An overview of the global status of offshore wind energy, its scope in India and a review of the literature on the investigations on the dynamic behaviour of offshore wind towers is presented. Efficient use of offshore wind energy is required for the sustainable development of a nation. For achieving a reliable offshore wind tower, research and testing play an important role. Since in the offshore environment, additional loading and additional dynamic behaviour are to be considered, coupled dynamic analysis of offshore wind tower is significant. Various studies carried out on offshore wind tower led to the development of various numerical tools for the coupled dynamic analysis. This paper presents a review of various design concepts, coupled dynamic analysis and wave tank model testing of offshore wind towers.
