Abstract
Numerous micro-processor based devices are now available to measure, analyze and report on equipment health and performance parameters. Industry experience to-date indicates acceptance of such devices. Major benefits accrue from the collection of accurate real-time data including clearer analysis of equipment performance, better definition of maintenance requirements and improved planning and scheduling ability. This preliminary report provides an overview of available instrumentation. It is released now in order to bring this attractive technology to immediate notice of surface mining operations. Work on this project is continuing and a more comprehensive report will be issued later in the year.
