Abstract
The exponential increase of information in World Wide Web has made the retrieval of relevant information a challenging task. Information filtering and retrieval are the two major areas which have gained more attention in the recent years. This paper gives an account on the similarities and differences between information filtering and retrieval, the steps involved in filtering and the types of information filtering.
