Abstract

This is a review of the state of the art of the area of Economic dispatch of Integrated Hydro-Theraml Electric Power Systems. We deal first with the case of systems with fixed-head hydro plants. This is followed by the extension to the variable-head case. In both instances we obtain the coordination equations and discuss the numerical implementation problem. Dispatch formulations and solutions for general hydro-thermal electrical power systems including multi-chains of reservoirs and hydro-plants with river transport delays are discussed as well. Optimal hydro-thermal load flow is briefly reviewed and potential for improvements are pointed out. Included in this paper is an extensive bibliography of the literature is this area over the past 20 years.
