Abstract

The contact between two surfaces is universally inevitable, and the production of friction, which eventually leads to wearing out of the material, is one of the significant hurdles that can easily be tackled with the third member of Tribology called lubrication. The new applications ask for lubricants to be having minor shear strength, higher strength in compression, and improved adhesion in most coarse and severe conditions. As a result, an essential first choice is a solid lubricant since it has outstanding lubricating properties. The present overview of solid lubricants briefly discusses the significance of lubricants, their use, classification, and recent advancements in engineering applications and patents. The review results reveal that the solid lubricants possess excellent features in modern-day applications, thus being more prominent and frequent in use. The research studies on hybrid/composites lubricants are increasing day by day, along with several patents.
