Abstract

In the present paper, the problem of locating a hazardous waste disposal facility in İstanbul province is taken up as an "undesirable" facility location problem. An optimization model is set up, in which the objective is to maximize the minimum distance of the location to be selected, to a set of predetermined, environmentally sensitive entities. Topographical conditions and restricted areas are defined using a series of linear and circular inequality constraints. The solution procedure implemented to the resulting constrained nonlinear optimization problem is briefly discussed and various solutions obtained under different parameter settings are presented.
