Abstract
An optical filter comprised of concatenated single-moded and multimoded waveguides is described. Wavelength filtering action occurs as a result of the relative displacement of the waveguide axes leading to spatial mode-beating within the multimode section. Variation of the relative waveguide displacements can be used to control the filter characteristic.
