Abstract

The sound waveform of focused ultrasound is measured at the focal point using optical beam refraction. Instead of a narrow light beam, an ordinary Gaussian laser beam whose diameter is 1 mm is used. An iris which has a small aperture is also applied to observe the refracted light. The signal obtained by the optical method was in agreement with the waveform measured by a poly vinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hydrophone.
