Abstract

The stability of output signal of a heterodyne optical fiber hydrophone using polarization-maintaining fiber is investigated. Using polarization-maintaining fiber, fluctuations of frequency-modulated beat signal decrease and the stability of demodulated output signal increases. Measured acoustic sensitivity of the polarization-maintaining fiber is 3.8×10-16 radµPa, while that of a conventional single-mode fiber is 1.2×10-15 rad/µPa.
