Abstract

Abstract Chapter 11 focuses on service providers’ work with youth aging out. Using stories and descriptions of service providers’ efforts, the chapter describes how service providers support youth, help youth develop life skills and problem-solve, advocate for youth, and make referrals. The chapter explores how service providers with strong relationships with youth hold them accountable and have high standards for youth. It concludes with explaining that service providers are often poorly compensated for their demanding work, but most providers are not in their positions for a paycheck. Service providers serve youth aging out of a commitment to help youth. They seek to make a difference.
