Abstract

An on-line measuring system for determining time intervals between events contained in various kinds of physiological signals has been developed, based on a small digital computer. The measurement of time intervals requires a reliable detection of waveforms, either in one or several simultaneously recorded signals. A simple technique based on the principle of contour limiting is used for this waveform recognition. For estimation of the required event in the waveform a number of criteria has been implemented to determine an accurate timing point. Preceding the actual signal processing, the user can select the waveform, adjust the contour limits, and select one of the available estimation criteria. The capabilities and limitations of this measuring system are discussed with some applications in cardiovascular research.
